FWPA 7th Grader Scores Among Top 10 in the Nation on SAT
Audrey L, who will be an 8th grade student at Federal Way Public Academy this coming school year, has received a "Top in Country" award in reading from John Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.
She earned this award by scoring a perfect 800 on her reading SAT. She was one of two students in the U.S. to earn this mark in the 7th grade. Her combined scores in reading and math – 1520 – put her in the top 10 in the nation for students under the age of 13. At the time Audrey took the test, she was 12.
Audrey has been a student at FWPA for one year. She attended Illahee for two years prior to that, in the 5th and 6th grades. Prior to that, the family lived in Lexington, Kentucky.
“It’s really extraordinary that someone her age could score this well on the SAT,” FWPA Principal Kurt Lauer said. He notes that Audrey recently completed Advanced Algebra and has very strong verbal skills as well. “What I really admire about Audrey is even though she has amazing intellectual gifts, she is also a very typical and well adjusted seventh grade student. Audrey is a very well-rounded easy-going young lady who likes to explore her world,” Lauer concluded.
The oldest of three children, Audrey is an avid reader and a talented pianist. Audrey also enjoys writing and will be attending a journalism camp this summer.
