The Federal Way Public Schools supports the philosophy of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans in the provision of nourishing meals and snacks to children so they are ready to learn.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, first published in 1980, provides science-based advice to promote health and to reduce risk for chronic diseases through diet and physical activity. The recommendations contained within the Dietary Guidelines for Americans are targeted to the general public over two years of age who are living in the United States . Because of its focus on health promotion and risk reduction, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans form the basis of federal food, nutrition education, and information programs.
The district supports teaching students food selection and good nutrition and provides opportunity for students to link classroom learning, fitness and actual food choices.
The Board authorizes the superintendent and/or designee to administer all food programs including responsibility for setting parameters for foods served.
The district shall establish procedures for all food served in school and will meet the provisions of all federal, state and local laws.
