  • Architects are in the permit process with King County and the health department. They expect to have permits this spring, with a bid advertisement in May and bid opening in June.
  • The architectural designs were shared with the Federal Way Public Schools Board of Education last week and a community meeting was held.

  • Design planning is ongoing. Architects are in the permit process with King County and expect to have permits this spring, with a bid advertisement in May and bid opening in June.
  • Construction will begin this summer with site grading, utilities and storm system work.
  • Since Lakeland will remain in operation during construction, the contractor will put up fencing to keep the two sites separate and safe.

Lakota

  • Contractors are installing exterior siding and exterior metal panel walls. 
  • 99 percent of the interior wall framing is complete and preliminary mechanical and electrical work is progressing accordingly. 
  • All heating, ventilation and air conditioning units are delivered to the site and are set in place.
  • The contractor is installing exterior windows.
  • Sheetrock installation is complete in two of the three classroom wings.
  • Temporary roof and metal roof installation is complete.
  • Storage containers for the gym supplies will be moved onto the site in the coming weeks.

  • All the structural steel has been erected, 98% of exterior framing and plywood outside covering is complete and temporary roofing has been applied to 100% of the building.
  • Exterior siding installation is underway.
  • 90% of the interior wall framing is complete and preliminary mechanical and electrical work is progressing accordingly.
  • All heating, ventilation and air conditioning units were delivered to the site and installation is beginning on some units.
  • The contractor is installing exterior windows.

  • Metal roof panel installation is nearly complete and solar panels were applied to the roof.

  • Contractors will be installing door seals on classrooms doors adjacent to the Commons – rooms 135, 136, 137, 139, 150, 151, 154, and 155.
  • Architects are reviewing a design to add acoustical measures to the public spaces to keep noise in common areas from entering the classrooms. 
  • Commissioning of the heating and lighting system is ongoing and should be complete in the next few weeks.

Sunnycrest

February 10, 2010

  • Architects are working with the City of Kent to use their new SMART Permit process. The program aims to streamline the permit process by encouraging collaboration and information sharing between the city, the school district and the team of architects and engineers. 
  • Bidding will begin in spring and construction will begin in the summer.
  • The design was shared with the Board last week.
  • The Sunnycrest principal, Rudy Baca will answer questions about construction at the next principal’s meeting from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. February 19 in the Sunnycrest library.

  • Contractors will be installing door seals on classroom doors adjacent to the Commons – rooms 128, 129, 141, 141B, 228, 229, 231, 232, and 234.
  • Contractors will be installing fencing around the two storm ponds that are currently unfenced.
  • Letters spelling OFFICE have been ordered and should be installed within the next few weeks.
  • Architects are reviewing a design to add acoustical measures to the public spaces to keep noise in common areas from entering the classrooms.
