First Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for first grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.

Physical Education Expectations

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: movement, physical fitness, and nutrition.

  • 1.1 Demonstrates with proficiency a variety of locomotor skills in isolation
  • 1.2 Demonstrates with proficiency a variety of non-locomotor skills in isolation
  • 1.3 Knows the safety rules for physical education and why they are important
  • 1.4 Shares equipment safely and cooperates with a partner in a variety of games or fitness activities
  • 1.5 Continues to learn the effects of exercise on their bodies (finds pulse, stretches out muscles)
  • 1.6 Describes why it is important to be physically active outside of the class using appropriate vocabulary
  • 1.7 Begins to describe the effects of healthy vs. unhealthy foods on his/her body
  • 1.8 States several positive benefits of regular exercise and proper nutrition

2. The student effectively analyzes health and safety information to develop health and fitness plans based on life goals.

  • 2.1 Names one benefit of a regularly active lifestyle
  • 2.2 Understands why it is important to be healthy 2.3 Identifies several physical activities that he or she participates in outside of class for fun
