Kindergarten Learning Expectations

Essential Learning 3: The student understands the writing process.

Writing Skill 3.2: Demonstrates understanding that writing and drawing are different.

Definition of Writing Skill:

The student can state that he is writing when he is making letters and drawing when he is making pictorial representations.

The student uses letters to represent written language.

Strategies:

  • Provide opportunities for writing and drawing - daily journals and other work.
     
  • Point out writing and drawing in books an other media; posters, newspapers, work displayed by other classes on bulletin boards in the halls.

Assessment:

Teacher observation of students:

- watching that they are writing when they say they are, and drawing when they say they are.
