Essential Learning 1: The student writes clearly and effectively.Writing Skill 1.6: Uses complete sentences.
Strategies:
- Teach
mini-lessons on complete sentences (noun and verb).
- During
shared reading, the teacher points out complete sentences.
- Conduct
peer conferences related to their work to help each other check for
complete sentences.
- Use
D.O.L and/or a Morning Message (see Invitations by Reggie Routman) to
reinforce complete sentences.
- Conduct
writing conferences with students to help them check for complete sentences.
- The teacher gives the students sentences that are complete and incomplete. The student identifies the sentences that are not complete and corrects them.
