Second Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for second grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.
Social Studies Expectations
The student understands and uses the scientific concepts and principles related to the topics of:
History
- 1.1 Understands that communities change over time (the study of farms, cities, and suburbs)
- 1.2 Comprehends that communities develop their own traditions
- 1.3 Recognizes the development of communities is influenced by technology
Geography
- 2.1 Understands basic map skills
- 2.2 Recognizes oceans, continents and various land forms
- 2.3 Student understands that people meet their needs in different ways
- 2.4 Identifies cultures near and far
Civics
- 3.1 Understands families, schools and communities have rules, rights and responsibilities
- 3.2 Recognizes patriotism and good citizenship
- 3.3 Recognizes that voting is a way to make group decisions
- 3.4 Understands how people work together to meet community needs
Economics
- 4.1 Recognizes goods and services are produced and distributed to supply the needs of a community
- 4.2 Identifies different jobs and services in the their community
- 4.3 Understands the communities make choices concerning their spending, earning, and saving
